Medford Cop Who Threatened to Kill Driver Has Troubled Past

Stephen Lebert has been suspended multiple times during his 30 years with the Medford Police Department.

Medford Police Detective Stephen Lebert, who is currently on leave after a video caught him threatening to shoot a wrong-way driver during a traffic stop, has a history of concerning behavior.

Police Chief Leo Sacco told WCVB that Lebert has shown a history of “troubling behavior” over the course of his 30 years as a detective on the force.

WCVB was able to recently look through Lebert’s personnel file. They learned of 18 separate incidents which caused for internal investigations. Lebert was also suspended four times prior to his latest incident.

Some of the suspensions included an incident in which gunshots were fired inside the police station, missed court cases and the failure to attend service trainings sessions. He also badly beat a man back in 1992.

Lebert’s file further revealed many citizen complaints claiming verbal threats and rude comments. Lebert was cleared in all of his previous incidents.

On the flip-side of things, WCVB says there were nearly 30 letters of commendation in Lebert’s file from citizens thanking him for upstanding service. He even has an “Officer of the Month” award on his resume.

In his latest altercation with the wrong-way driver, Lebert was recorded on video threatening to “put a hole” in the driver’s head.
