Medford Dunkin' Purveyor Shutting Down And Laying Off Employees
The facility processes food products and is a franchisee for multiple Dunkin' locations.
MEDFORD, MA — A facility that provides food products for Dunkin’ locations in the area is closing and laying off its employees, according to a state filing.
Medford CPL Inc. filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act with the state earlier this month, signaling its impending closure and subsequent dismissal of 63 employees. The WARN was filed on Friday, Jan.16.The 14,000 square-foot facility is located at 93 Mystic Ave. According to the WARN filing, 13 of the employees slated to lose their jobs as a result of the closure are truck drivers who deliver products and a part of the Teamsters Local 25 workers’ union, while the remaining 50 are not unionized and work in the facility.
Medford CPL Inc. is owned by Couto Management Group, which processes food products for more than 60 Dunkin’ locations throughout the state. It was founded in 1986 with the launch of its first Dunkin’ franchise in the Boston neighborhood of Allston. Employees of Couto Management Group are hired directly by the company as opposed to Dunkin’.

The business entity 93 Mystic Ave LLC bought the property in 2002 for approximately $2,075,000. The entity lists the founder of Couto Management as a manager, according to a report from Boston.com. The property was last assessed by Medford at $3.5 million.
According to the WARN filing, the closure and layoffs are scheduled to take effect on Tuesday, March 17.
