Medford Man Convicted In Hit-And-Run Of Bicyclist

Christopher Campbell was found guilty of striking a cyclist and fleeing the scene in Cambridge two years ago.

MEDFORD, MA – A Medford man was found guilty Wednesday of a 2015 hit-and-run of a bicyclist in Cambridge. Christopher Campbell, 49, struck the cyclist in his pickup truck after yelling and honking at the man.

Authorities said Campbell was driving his Ford F-250 down Webster Avenue the morning of Sept. 29, 2015. Around 7:41 a.m., he came across the cyclist, who was traveling in the same direction. Campbell began yelling at the cyclist and beeping his horn before pulling up alongside the bicycle. He struck the handlebar of the bicycle, causing the cyclist, a 36-year-old man, to lose control and fall.

Campbell did not stop, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney's office. The cyclist was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital and treated for serious injuries to his wrist and arm.

Police released surveillance video of the collision to the public and received a tip about the vehicle. Investigators located the vehicle and connected it to Campbell.

He was convicted of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of personal injury. Campbell was sentenced to one year in the House of Correction with 90 days to serve and ordered to take classes in anger management and safe driving.
