Medford City Council Preliminary Election: Castagnetti Out

Medford voters whittled the field of City Council candidates down to 14 at Tuesday's preliminary election.

MEDFORD, MA — Fifteen hopefuls entered Tuesday with an eye toward the City Council. Fourteen are now headed to the general election in November.

Medford residents are heading to the polls Tuesday, Sept. 17 to vote in the preliminary election for City Council. Voters whittled the field of 15 candidates down to 14.

City Council President John Falco received the most votes with 2,447. Adam Castagnetti had the fewest with 584 and will not move on to the general, according to the unofficial results. See the full vote totals below:

In addition to Falco, four other city councilors – Scarpelli, Knight, Marks and Caraviello – are running for re-election. DiBenedetto currently serves on the school committee and Cugno is a former school committee member.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story implied the vote would be for seven city councilors. The preliminary vote lowered the number of candidates to 14.
