Medford Scams On Uptick, Police Warn
Several residents reported fake IRS calls asking for money, police said.

MEDFORD, MA — IRS scams in Medford and nearby communities have the Police Captain Barry Clemente warning residents.
Several people have recently reported they are getting calls from people posing as IRS agents, saying the residents owe money and can be audited or arrested if they don't pay. The callers may ask you to transfer money to a Green Dot Money Park or other similar card, then provide the number of the card to the caller. The suspects have been obtaining up to thousands of dollars at a time.
The IRS does not requesting money in these type of calls. The IRS will also never ask for your Social Security number over the phone. When in doubt, hang up and call the IRS to verify the legitimacy of the call. Call Medford Police at 781-395-1212 with questions.
