Medford Student Receives Girls On The Run Alumni Scholarship
The organization selected four recipients of scholarships for girls who previously participated in their after-school programs.
MEDFORD, MA — 2026 High School graduate Yamiley Etienne was recognized by Girls on the Run Greater Boston as one of the recipients of the organization’s second annual alumni scholarship.
Etienne, who participated in Girls on the Run while attending Roberts Elementary School, received a $1,000 scholarship to support her continued education after high school. She is slated to attend the University of Massachusetts Lowell in the fall.
Girls on the Run Greater Boston said the scholarship recipients were selected on the criteria of their student leadership, academic success, community involvement and character.

The scholarship program was created in 2024 as part of the organization’s 15th anniversary celebration. Funding is provided by the Girls on the Run Greater Boston Finish Line Council, a group of former board members, associate board members, staff, and other company supporters.
“The GOTRGB Alumni Scholarship Award was created last year to celebrate the organization’s 15th anniversary and to empower program alumni by helping them pursue further education,” Executive Director Cyndi Roy Gonzalez said. “It’s incredible to hear stories from these young women about how their time at Girls on the Run shaped the young adults they’ve become.”

Girls on the Run Greater Boston is a nonprofit that offers after-school programs for girls in grades three through eight. The organization’s curriculum combines running with lessons focused on confidence, resilience, managing emotions, and standing up for oneself and others.
Since 2010, Girls on the Run Greater Boston has served more than 25,000 girls across Eastern Massachusetts. The organization currently operates programs at more than 200 sites in approximately 90 communities.
Three other Girls on the Run Greater Boston alumni from Dedham and Needham were also recognized through this year's scholarship program.
