Michael Doto, of Medford, walks in 20th Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk
In 1976, Michael Doto, then 16, of Medford, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. After undergoing six months of multiples surgeries and two rounds of radiation treatments at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, he successfully achieved remission. During the following two decades, Doto was successfully treated for three additional forms of cancer. He continues to go back to Dana-Farber for follow up care and attends many of the Institute’s seminars on post-patient care and cancer advancements. As a thank you to the Institute he credits with helping to save his life,
Doto, now 54, will walk in the 26th annual Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai. On Sunday, Sept. 21, he will be among more than 8,500 people expected to walk in the one-day fundraising event to collectively raise more than $7.5 million for the Jimmy Fund for lifesaving adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber. This will be Doto’s 20th Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk experience. He will tackle the historic 26.2-mile Boston Marathon® with the goal of raising $5,000.
On the evening of Sept. 21, the Prudential Center and The Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge will glow in red and yellow to mark the 26th annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk.

This year’s event will bring the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk’s 26-year fundraising total to more than $100 million.
