The More Things Change, the More They Remain the Same

Bikers and Blues Concert Series kicks off to help Vets

Revere’s Mottola VFW Post relocated, earlier this year, from its old location on Garofola Street to a new one on Lucia Avenue. This did not deter Post Commander Dennis Moschella and the members of Veterans Assisting Veterans from devoting themselves to combining music and Vets to help organization who provide services to Veterans.

To this end they are kicking off a concert series “Bikers and Blues” on Friday August 4, 2017 at the newly minted Café Lucia Music Hall at 61 Lucia Avenue. The series’ first performer will be Boston’s’ legendary blues artist James Montgomery. Montgomery, known as one if the bedrocks of the New England music scene. Upon graduating from Boston University in the late sixties and hitting the road, never looking back the James Montgomery Band, eventually signed with Capricorn Records, original home of the the Allman Brothers and the Marshall Tucker Band. Montgomery continued touring the nation as both an opener and headliner for decades. Over the last few years he has removed himself from such arduous touring and confined himself to the New England area.

Montgomery has been a strong supporter of Veteran’s causes, stretching all the way back to the Vietnam War and benefits he was involved in to support the returning troops. He has remained loyal to these men and woman for decades and continues to be one of their biggest supporters doing several such events yearly.

As part of the show we will have some members from an incredible organization called Guitars for Vets, which provides services for those suffering from PTSD. Part of the program is teaching music as a copping mechanism. The organization operates in Massachusetts through the VA Hospital in Brockton and does great work with these Vets. To this end we wanted to give an opportunity to some of these Vets to join us and put their new-found skills to good use.

We hope you’ll come and take part of this great event for a worthy cause.
