Motion To Address North Medford Traffic Woes Approved

Traffic in North Medford and Fulton Heights in particular has gotten worse over the years, according to city councilors.

MEDFORD, MA – If you feel like you've been sitting in traffic longer in North Medford, it's not your imagination. According to some city councilors, traffic in North Medford and Fulton Heights in particular has gotten worse over the years, due in large part to ride share and navigation apps, the Medford Transcript reported.

The council on Tuesday unanimously approved a motion to address rush hour traffic on Murray Hill Road, Fells Ave Terrace and Fells Avenue, according to the Transcript. The council will call on Traffic Engineer Todd Blake to develop a plan to redirect traffic away from those roads.

Navigation and ride share apps sometimes use side roads as shortcuts, and ride share services in general have added to congestion on the roads, according to the council. In addition to having Blake develop a traffic plan, the council also approved a request for the Medford Police Department to examine making some streets resident-only during rush hour.
