Employees of the City of Medford’s Office of Prevention and Outreach have been trained to educate and instruct community members on how to administer naloxone. Those who receive training will be provided a kit that contains two intranasal doses of the medication as well as treatment resources and information.
The Medford Board of Health’s Naloxone Program is a collaborative effort with the Mystic Valley Public Health Coalition to make naloxone and overdose prevention training available through municipal health departments free of charge. This pioneer program first started in the MetroWest area and has now been replicated in several other municipalities.

“When facing an overdose, every second counts. This program will allow residents to obtain Naloxone (narcan) free of charge, and possibly even save a life,” said Mayor Stephanie M. Burke.
Massachusetts state law allows for an individual to obtain and carry naloxone with the intention to administer it to another person. Through the statewide standing order, naloxone is available for anyone to purchase at participating pharmacies without a prescription.
Individuals interested in obtaining naloxone can walk-in to the Medford Office of Prevention and Outreach during business hours or call to schedule an appointment to receive one-on-one training and a naloxone kit free. Organizations or businesses interested in an overdose prevention training or obtaining naloxone kits for their place of work can also call to schedule a training. Both of these free services are available to anyone who lives or works in Medford. Please contact Alysia LaGambina at (781)-654-5635 for more information or to schedule an appointment or training.
Narcan training will be on Tuesday, November 19th 6:30PM – 7:30PM at the South Medford Fire Station. All are welcome.
