Robert Maiocco Serves at Last City Council Meeting After 30 Years
The City Council president decided not to seek a 16th term this fall. Newcomer Adam Knight will replace him on the council.

Medford City Council President Robert Maiocco served at his last meeting Tuesday after 30 years.
Maiocco decided not to seek re-election this fall after 15 terms on the council, 13 as president.
At his last meeting, with his wife Cheryl by his side, Maiocco thanked his family, the people of Medford and his mentor and friend Al Frezza, as well as Mayor Michael McGlynn.

He said getting elected by the people of Medford is “the greatest thrill and privilege you can have.” He said he always tried to put the people first.
“I love the city of Medford, it’s a great city,” Maiocco said in his closing remarks. “As I say tongue-and-cheek, it’s the hub of the universe.”

The councillors went around and publicly praised Maiocco for his leadership, as did State Rep. Paul Donato, Lauren DiLorenzo, the city’s Director of the Office of Community Development, and Police Chief Leo Sacco Jr.
Donato presented Maiocco with a State House resolution congratulating him on his years of service. The councillors officially granted him the title “President Emeritus of the Medford City Council” and gave him a rocking chair with the official Medford seal.Get more local news delivered straight to your inbox.
