Wanted: Tewksbury Man Allegedly Decks Officer, Hightails It

A Tewksbury man did not want to be arrested, so he allegedly punched an officer, drove into his cruiser, and sped away at 100+ mph.

STONEHAM, MA — A Tewksbury man is wanted on a host of charges and violations after allegedly assaulting a Stoneham Police officer and driving into his cruiser before speeding off early Monday morning.

Stoneham Police Chief James McIntyre said that his officers responded at about 2:15 a.m. to a Main Street disturbance. Officers conducted a preliminary investigation and told Matthew MacInnes, 33, he will be placed under arrest.

MacInnes allegedly punched an officer who tried to take him into custody and fled on foot. Officers have chase toward the intersection of Wilson and Parkway Roads, where MacInnes allegedly got into his truck, locked himself inside, and drove into a cruiser parked in front of him before speeding away.

Police chased MacInnes on I-93, but said they called off the chase for safety reasons after the chase speeds exceeded 100 miles per hour.

MacInnes is wanted on two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, malicious destruction of property over $250, leaving the scene of a property damage, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, operating to endganger, marked lanes violation, failure to slow, and two counts of failure to yield.

There is a Matthew MacInnes who made an appearance in Winchester Police logs in 2011 for domestic abuse after swinging his bat around a kitchen, but Patch has not confirmed it is the same man.
