Elderly Medford Man Fends Off 21-Year-Old's Road Rage Attack: PD

Police said Joseph Rivard punched the 71-year-old in the face several times until he fought back.

MEDFORD, MA – Police have made an arrest in connection with the road rage beating of an elderly Medford man, according to police. Joseph Rivard, 21, of Brockton, is accused of repeatedly punching the 71-year-old in the face in Easton Wednesday.

The attack happened around noon on Washington Street, police said. Rivard had been trying to pass the victim while traveling west on Belmont Street when the two cars hit each other, causing minor damage.

Rivard then followed the victim to the North Easton Savings Bank parking lot, where he got out of his car and started banging on the man's car with his fists, police said. When the victim got out of his car, Rivard punched him in the face "several times," according to police.

The man fought back and was able to stop the attack. He was treated at the scene for lacerations to his face.

Rivard, who had minor swelling under his eye, was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a person over age 60 and disturbing the peace.
