Tufts Extends Spring Break, Moves Online Amid Coronavirus Fears
The university is closing its campus to students as Massachusetts enters a state of emergency over the spread of the coronavirus.
MEDFORD, MA — Tufts University moved classes online for the rest of the semester Tuesday as Massachusetts entered a state of emergency over the spread of the coronavirus. The university has extended spring break to March 25, when online classes will start for the remainder of the semester. Classes will be canceled Friday, March 13.
Students living on campus must move out by Monday, March 16. Exceptions will be made for students who are unable to return to their permanent residences due to travel restrictions or other constraints.
Graduate and professional schools, some of whose academic calendars differ from the undergraduate schools, will also move predominantly to online instruction. University offices will remain open, and faculty and staff will continue to report to campus.

Gov. Charlie Baker declared a state of emergency Tuesday as the number of presumptive positive cases in Massachusetts spiked to 92, including one in Medford. Presumptive positive means the CDC still needs to verify the test result.
