MEDFORD, MA — The new Green Line stop at the intersection of College and Boston Avenues in Medford will be named Medford/Tufts, the MBTA and Tufts University announced Thursday. The stop was named following an agreement between the agency and the university, which has long supported the Green Line Extension project.

The stop will be the end of the line for the extension of the Green Line from Lechmere to Union Square in Somerville and College Avenue in Medford, next to Tufts. Mayor Stephanie M. Burke told TuftsNow Medford/Tufts is the "perfect name for the new Green Line Extension station."

The GLX will include seven new stations, platform canopies, additional elevators at select stations, public art, an extension of the community path with additional connections and an enhanced vehicle maintenance facility. The project is expected to be finished by late 2021.
