Community members with relevant information are being asked to contact the Melrose Police Department at 781-665-1212 or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678.

Melrose has an alert program for missing and endangered people who are considered particularly vulnerable. Residents with a loved one are encouraged to register that person with specific information so the department can quickly use it if that person goes missing. The Melrose Alert Registration Form asks for personal information as well as physical features such as height, ethnicity, gender, and eye color.

“Time is of the essence when someone is missing,” the department said in a statement. “With this program, we will already have important information in hand when the call first comes in, and we can distribute it quickly to officers in the field.”

The program is modeled after the nationally used Amber Alert system.
