Bomb Squad Deployed For ‘Suspicious Device’ On Main Street In Milford

Multiple streets were closed for more than two hours on Friday until officials deemed the area safe.

MILFORD, MA — A bomb squad was deployed after police investigated a "suspicious device" on Main Street Friday.

Milford police said that officers were responding to a call for an unattended death at 201 Main St. around 11:40 a.m. on Friday, when detectives found several objects that could possibly be identified as homemade explosives.

To take caution, police evacuated the area, and Exchange Street and parts of Main Street were closed for just over two hours. The Milford Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad cleared the scene.

Shortly after 2 p.m., officials deemed the area safe, and people were allowed to reenter nearby buildings and drive openly.

“Our officers and partner agencies from the Milford Fire Department and MSP Bomb Squad acted quickly to secure the area and ensure the safety of the public,” said Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino. “Out of an abundance of caution, we took the necessary steps to investigate the suspicious items and confirm there was no ongoing threat to the community.”

Police did not share any further information about the unattended death or any suspect related to the suspicious device.
