Milford Eagle Scout Given Citation For Bench Project
The teen built two benches for commuters as part of his Eagle Scout project.

MILFORD, MA — Local Eagle Scout Joshua Ahrens was recognized at Monday night's Board of Selectmen meeting for his community service project that helped bring him to the Eagle Scout title. As part of his Eagle Scout project, Ahrens built two benches for the MetroWest Regional Transit Authority bus route in Milford.
The benches are meant for commuters waiting for the bus. One bench is located near the Shaw's on 93 Prospect St. and the other is located in front of Milford High School. Selectman William Kingkade said at Monday night's meeting that Ahrens had been working on the project for a while and came to Kingkade with the idea. "I just want to say thank you, I'm very proud of you," Kingkade said, "We get to show you off a little bit and let people know, good things are happening in the town of Milford and it's because of future leaders like you."
Ahrens was given a donation of concrete by the Milford Highway department, which helped him complete his project over the course of a few weekends. The Selectmen agreed that Ahrens work on the benches was of a professional caliber. "That looks like something you would have to purchase at a very high end store or industrial supply," Chairman William Buckley said.

In addition to the craftsmanship, Buckley pointed out that the benches defray costs for the town, but beyond that show a strong sense of community, "The community spirit that's put behind it and what's behind it is more important than offsetting financials," he said.
Selectman Michael Walsh said the project highlighted to importance of the scout presence in Milford. "Just another great example of Eagle Scout work," Walsh said, "It's all about leadership."
