The Newton Cultural Alliance highlights our member events happening around Newton. Have a great fall week of arts and culture!
All Newton Music School presents its Con Brio Lunch Club on Friday, October 4, at 11:00 a.m. at their location at 321 Chestnut Street, West Newton. Take a peek behind the musical curtain with violist Scott Woolweaver. Joined by talented musical guests, Woolweaver presents fascinating composer anecdotes and chamber music, while you enjoy lunch, coffee, tea, and dessert with friends. Lunch catered by L’Aroma Café and Bakery. Single tickets are $30; subscribe to the five-concert series for $120. More info at allnewton.org.
Historic Newton presents Homestead Hayfest on Sunday, October 6, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., rain or shine, at the Jackson Homestead, 527 Washington Street, Newton. Drop in for a day of old-fashioned fun at Historic Newton’s annual hands-on family festival. Activities focus on historic food and crafts, games, and leisure pastimes. Try your hand at butter making, cider pressing, and candle dipping, and learn the history behind these 19th-century activities of daily life. FREE and open to the public. New Art Center presents a Family Art Drop-in on Sunday, October 6, from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. at their location at 61 Washington Park, Newton. Visit New Art Center for an exciting, free program for children with their parents, grandparents, or guardians. The theme for this drop-in is animal creations and there will be two art-maker spaces to explore. This is a work-together program: children must be accompanied by an adult. Newton Free Library presents a Poetry Reading & Open Mic on Tuesday, October 8, at 7:00 p.m. in their Druker Auditorium, 330 Homer Street, Newton. The Poetry Series continues with readings by Denise Bergman, Jason Tandon, and Patricia Sheppard. An open mic will follow with a limit of one poem per person. Come early to sign up for the open mic; limited slots are available, time permitting. The series is facilitated by Doug Holder of Ibbetson Street Press. FREE and open to the public. NewTV presents the class Basic Adobe Audition on Wednesday, October 9, at 7:00 p.m. at the NewTV studio, 23 Needham Street, Newton. Learn the basics of Audition on the Mac.
