The Newton Cultural Alliance highlights our member events happening around Newton this week. Enjoy a great winter week of arts & culture!
Join the Scandinavian Cultural Center presents Voices of Scandinavia on Saturday, February 8, at 1:00 p.m. at their location at 206 Waltham Street, West Newton. Brothers Lawrence Wilde and Charles Boguinia come together to present a program of piano music by Edward Grieg and new compositions for the Swedish nyckelharpa, violin, and piano inspired by Swedish and Norwegian Folk music. The concert will open with a discussion about Scandinavian folk music and a demonstration of the Swedish nyckelharpa. Cost is $15; free for SCC Members. More info at scandicenter.org.

The Newton Art Association presents Artist Demo: Carolyn Letvin - Painters Should Be Printermakers on Sunday, February 9, at 2:30 p.m. at the Newton Senior Center, 345 Walnut Street, Newtonville. All Newton Music School presents Renese King in Concert on Sunday, February 9, at 3:00 p.m. at their location at 321 Chestnut Street, West Newton. Renese King is a talented instrumentalist and arranger whose soulful and moving voice has been called "resplendent" by The Boston Globe and garnered her a Boston Music Award for Gospel Artist of the Year. King has toured with the Boston Pops, the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, and many other orchestras, and was a featured artist on the soundtrack to the Emmy award-winning film Freedom Riders, which was produced for National Public Television's American Experience. Newton Nomadic Theater presents the Nomad Story Slam on Sunday, February 9, at 7:30 p.m. at Gregorian Rugs, 2284 Washington Street, Newton Lower Falls. Join Newton Nomadic Theater for the next Nomad Story Slam! The theme for this slam is ‘danger.’ Come and hear true-life stories from your neighbors and friends, as well as special guest, Moth storyteller Cheryl Hamilton, or throw you own name in the hat to tell your own story.
