The Newton Cultural Alliance highlights our member events happening around Newton this week. Have a great fall week of arts and culture!

TONIGHT! The Newton Art Association presents Artist Demo: Cristina Hajosy “Paste Papers” on Thursday, October 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Newton Senior Center, 345 Walnut Street, Newtonville. Join NAA for this exciting, interactive demo! Paste paper is traditionally used for endpapers and book covers, offering a textural and colorful alternative to marbling. See some historical and contemporary approaches; then create your own. Start with a traditional method and learn ways to make more creative and painterly versions. FREE and open to the public. Newton Nomadic Theater presents The Revolutionists on Friday, October 11, and Saturday, October 12, at 8:00 p.m. at the Bocca Bella Bistro & Cafe, 442 Lexington Street, Auburndale. Four women lose their heads in this hilarious and poignant comedy set during the French Revolution. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll want to build a barricade! Newton Nomadic Theater has assembled a great cast of regulars and newcomers and has brought back Nicole Galland to direct this wacky, wonderful and wildly imaginative story. Starring Linda Goetz (God of Carnage, Dracula, Doubt, Picasso), Noni Lewis (God of Carnage, Dracula, Molly Sweeney, All In the Timing), Abigail Dickson (Colder Than Here, Behind the Scenes-Directing), and the NNT debut of the fabulous Lillian Gomes. The Scandinavian Cultural Center presents its Maker Series: House Sign Rosemaling on Saturday, October 12, and Sunday, October 13, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at their location at 206 Waltham Street, West Newton. SCC welcomes back master artist Linda Miller for this two-day workshop dedicated to rosemaling, a Norwegian-style home sign. Background paint will be supplied; brushes and palette knives will be offered for sale. The project, an 8” Nordic basswood bowl, will be bought from the teacher. Beginners are welcome. Cost is $240 and a $50 deposit is required to hold your place. More info and register at scandicenter.org.

Newton Free Library presents Mythic Winds on Sunday, October 13, at 2:00 p.m. in their Druker Auditorium, 330 Homer Street, Newton. Aubrie Dionne, flute; Alicia Rockenhauser, oboe; and Céline Ferro, clarinet; are Mythic Winds. Join them for a delightful afternoon concert as they perform works by Malcom Arnold, Paul de Wailly, Alexander von Kreisler, Gustav Holst, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Whitney Tustin. PLAN AHEAD! All Newton Music School presents its Rock-Away-Café on Friday, October 18, at 6:30 p.m. at their location at 321 Chestnut Street, West Newton. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a glass of wine, soda, and snacks while listening to All Newton Music School's talented faculty perform jazz, singer-songwriter, and pop music. ANMS will transform its lobby for this one-night event; a great evening out for the whole family! Cost is $15 for adults, $5 for kids. More info and tickets at allnewton.org.
