Newton Art Association presents the workshop Selling Your Art Online on Thursday, October 24, at 7:00 p.m. at Newton City Hall, 1000 Commonwealth Avenue, Newton. Today, selling your artwork online can be highly effective and profitable. With so many options out there, what is the best one for you? Find out in this lecture, where you will learn how to price your artwork, various platforms for selling, how to set up your shop, shipping details, marketing strategies, presenting your artwork to maximize visibility, and more. Newton Theatre Company presents The Witches on Saturday, October 26, at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., and Sunday, October 27, at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at Union Church in Waban, 14 Collins Road, Newton. The first show of Newton Theatre Company's seventh season is sure to be the spookiest of the year—just in time for Halloween! Roald Dahl's eerie children's book about the adventures of two boys who are turned into mice by a coven of witches is brought to life by David Wood's lively adaptation. Join Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra for their “The Art of Jazz” concert on Saturday, October 26, at 8:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 848 Beacon Street, Newton. Pro Arte kicks off its season with a colorful program that explores how composers of art music first reckoned with a new force in 1920s American popular music: jazz. Enjoy George Gershwin’s famous Rhapsody in Blue; Kurt Weill’s sultry cabaret music from The Threepenny Opera; and the Harlem jazz-club inspired Darius Milhaud’s ballet La Création du Monde, based on African myth. Historic Newton presents a Halloween Tour of East Parish Burying Ground on Sunday, October 27, at 3:30 p.m. Meet at the corner of Centre and Cotton Streets, Newton. Who says burying grounds have to be spooky? Newton’s oldest, the East Parish Burying Ground, dates back to 1660 and serves as the resting place of Newton’s founding families. Learn about Newton’s history and explore this community resource in this special tour of the art of remembrance, and life and death in Newton. Suggested donation, $10/person. First Baptist Church presents an Open (and Affirming) Mic Night on Sunday, October 27, at 6:00 p.m. at its location at 848 Beacon Street, Newton. Do you or someone you know have a gift or story to share? Invite a friend and join us! Come affirm and be affirmed. This is a space for people across age range and ability to celebrate a gift they have or want to explore. Sing a song, play an instrument, tell a story, perform an act, speak about your art—anything you are passionate about. Event lasts for 60-90 minutes.
