Dr. Michael R. Jaff Named to Becker's Top Physician List
National Publication Recognizes Top Physician Leaders to Know
Newton-Wellesley Hospital (NWH) is proud to announce that its President, Dr. Michael R. Jaff, has been recognized by Becker’s Healthcare as one of "112 Hospital and Health System Physician Leaders to Know."
According to Becker’s, these individuals have committed their careers to advancing healthcare access and delivery both as clinicians and strategic leaders. Becker's Healthcare accepted several hundred nominations for this list, executives featured are on the forefront of innovative care models and value-based care and have led their organizations to achieve top rankings by leading healthcare rating organizations.
Since becoming president of Newton-Wellesley Hospital in October 2016, Dr. Jaff has implemented innovative programs that focus on ensuring exceptional patient experiences and unparalleled quality of care. He has overseen the development of hospital programs to combat the opioid epidemic and initiated an acute care surgery program which ensures 24/7 community-based coverage for urgent surgical needs—a program which is not commonly found in the community hospital setting.

Under Dr. Jaff’s leadership, Newton-Wellesley Hospital has achieved noteworthy designations including the top rating of five stars for overall hospital quality by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), an ‘A’ for patient safety from Leapfrog for six consecutive years, recognition as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades and most recently being named by The Boston Globe as a Top Place to Work for 2018.
Board certified in internal medicine and vascular medicine, Dr. Jaff is a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and an alumnus of the Harvard Business School. Prior to becoming President of NWH, Dr. Jaff was the inaugural Paul and Phyllis Fireman Endowed Chair of Vascular Medicine and Medical Director of the Fireman Vascular Center at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He remains an active clinical consultant in all aspects of vascular medicine, including peripheral artery disease, venous thromboembolic disease, aneurysmal diseases, and all diagnostic strategies in vascular medicine, and has published extensively in the field.
