The Newton Cultural Alliance highlights our member events happening around Newton. Fill this beautiful fall week with plenty of local arts and culture events!

In the New Art Center’s Holzwasser Gallery, enjoy the closing reception of Schools of Thought: A Collection of Works by NAC Faculty and Staff on Thursday, September 26, from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at their location at 61 Washington Park, Newton. The exhibit highlights the artistic talent of the faculty and staff at the New Art Center. Displayed works encompass a variety of mediums, including oil and acrylic painting, watercolor, ceramics, mixed media, textile, etching, charcoal drawing, and more. Light refreshments will be served. The Scandinavian Cultural Center presents Nordic Kids: Celebrate Pippi on Saturday, September 28, at 11:00 a.m. at their location at 206 Waltham Street, West Newton. Join the Scandinavian Cultural Center in the Nordic Hall to celebrate Astrid Lindgren’s creation, Pippi Longstocking. Decorate cookies to look like Pippi while a movie plays on the big screen. Cost is $7; free for members. More info and register at scandicenter.org.

Newton Free Library presents Outrageous Fortune on Sunday, September 29, at 2:00 p.m. in their Druker Auditorium at 330 Homer Street, Newton. Enjoy Outrageous Fortune’s toe-tappin' style with sweet three-part harmony and sizzling guitar, harmonica, jug, washboard, and bass. The concert will include new acquisitions from Joe "King" Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton, The Memphis Jug Band, and the ubiquitous and elusive P. Domain, along with favorites from Outrageous Fortune’s CD's "Lazy Bones" and "Delta Bound." FREE and open to the public. More info at newtonfreelibrary.net.

Coming Soon! Tickets are available now for Newton Theatre Company’s production of The Witches, by Roald Dahl and adapted by David Wood. Roald Dahl's deliciously spooky and eccentric story follows the adventures of two boys who are turned into mice by a coven of witches. Appropriate for children ages 6 and up. Performances are on Saturday, October 26, at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., and Sunday, October 27, at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at Union Church in Waban, 14 Collins Road, Newton.
