NEWTON, MA — Newton City Council President Susan Albright and Vice President Rick Lipof have endorsed Mayor Ruthanne Fuller in her reelection campaign.

Albright, from Ward 2, and Lipof, from Ward 8, are both lifelong Newton residents who applauded Fuller's efforts to improve the city and her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Mayor Fuller listens to our residents and is responding to our needs by initiating major upgrades to the Senior Center, the Gath Pool, and our Arts Facilities," said Albright in a statement. "She is our "Informer-in-Chief" with her weekly newsletter 'keeping us all in the loop.' Newton is a better place for her efforts. I'm eager to spend another term working as a leadership team to keep Newton strong.”

“Mayor Fuller has shepherded our city through one of the most difficult times in our history, working overtime, seven days a week," said Lipof in a statement. "In this complicated time of Covid which has produced unique financial constraints and also opportunity, continuity in the executive branch is essential and Mayor Fuller should remain at the helm. I have been impressed with her drive and love for our community and she has earned my vote for a second term.” said Lipof, a lifelong Newton resident who is in his 20th year on the Council.

The endorsements from Newton City Council leadership come after Mayor Fuller's recent endorsement from EMILY's List, a national organization dedicated to promoting women candidates for office, National Champion for Women's Equality Barbara Lee, a group of local environmental leaders, and former Mayor of Newton and State Representative from the 11th Middlesex District David Cohen.
