Newton's Auchincloss Has Challenger For Congressional Seat
Chris Boyd recently announced his campaign for U.S. Rep.
NEWTON, MA — U.S. Rep and Newton native Jake Auchincloss officially has a challenger for his Congressional spot this coming fall.
Chris Boyd announced he is running for the seat that represents the Fourth Congressional District of Massachusetts, in which Newton is one of its main municipalities. Boyd is a native from the town of Bellingham where he grew up with his parents and two siblings. He cited the 2008 economic recession as a big challenge to his family, when his by-then single mother took on multiple jobs to provide for him and his siblings but was still struggling to feed them adequately.
“My family was kept from ruin on more than one occasion by the love and support of the community, and by crucial public welfare programs like SNAP and free/reduced lunch for public school students,” Boyd said. “I was forced to grow up early.”

Boyd gained a passion for music when he started playing the drums in fifth grade, and it has carried into his adult life as he now works as a music teacher after graduating from Rhode Island College in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in music education.
Boyd credited his decision to run for office to what he feels is an over presence of “establishment politicians” who put the priorities of financial donors and lobbyists ahead of actual constituents.

“I was raised to believe that democracy is built by ordinary citizens, that our government exists to protect freedom, uplift the vulnerable, and ensure that every person has a fair shot at success,” Boyd said. “But over the past two decades, I’ve watched corporations, special interests, and career politicians betray those ideals, erode public trust, and bend the government to serve their own ends. I have to do this, because if we wait too long it might be too late.”
Boyd lives in Bellingham with his wife, Alyssa. Auchincloss is currently serving his third term in Congress, having first been elected in 2020.
