NEWTON, MA — A new indoor tennis facility officially opened its doors this week.

Court 16 launched its first Boston area location at 300 Needham St. with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, March 17. The Newton location is now the sixth of its kind throughout the country with the others being based in the New York City neighborhoods of Brooklyn, Queens, Yonkers, and Manhattan. One other location is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

According to the United States Tennis Association, the facility features four tennis courts that are multiple different sizes, including the professional full-size 72-foot format. The membership-based business is open to both children and adults beginning at $685 annually. In addition to court access, memberships include opportunities to participate in community events, camps, and private celebrations. Private celebrations such as birthday parties can also be hosted. Private lessons, semi-private lessons, and group lessons are available to adult and youth members. Instruction, programming, and court rentals are also offered for the game of pickleball.

Court 16 was founded in 2014 by Anthony Evrard and Romain Aubanel, as the pair launched a facility in Brooklyn that same year. That inaugural location would eventually move to a bigger spot in the borough. Evrard and the USTA’s New England branch Executive Director and CEO Lindsey Keeler were present for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

“Our goal has always been simple: create a place where people can learn, play, and build a lifelong love for the game,” Court 16’s leadership said. “We’re excited to bring that vision to Newton and welcome the community into a new home for tennis and pickleball.”
