Paralympic Cycling Champion Visits Franciscan Hospital for Children Adaptive Bike Camp

Three-time tandem cycling medalist in the Paralympic games visited Franciscan Hospital for Children for its Adaptive Bike Camp.

Boston, Mass. – This past Thursday, August 21st, three-time tandem cycling medalist in the Paralympic games, Pam Fernandes, visited Franciscan Hospital for Children’s and spoke with the children participating in its Adaptive Bike Camp.

Fernandes spoke about overcoming disabilities and challenged them to follow their dreams. She also discussed her experience in the Paralympic games, and showed the children her gold medals from different races she has competed in around the world. Additionally, Fernandes brought her guide dog, Cameron, who was a huge hit with the future Olympians.

Franciscan Hospital for Children offers adaptive sports programs which effectively reduce the gap in physical activity between Boston-area children with disabilities and that of their typically developing peers. This is accomplished by providing adaptive sports activities each year, including bicycle, baseball, and ice skating programs that serve children ages 5-21 years.
