Police Log: A Drunk Driving Incident and Assault Charges

Break-in on Adams Street

Police responded to Adams Street Friday after reports came in that someone broke into a vacant house sometime over the course of the week.

According to reports, the reporting party is someone who is trying to rent the house. When he arrived to the house on Friday, he found the rear bedroom window and basement window were broken.

Fight at a local restaurant

A 30-year-old Wilmington man will face assault charges after police responded to on Saturday for reports of a physical altercation and a man with cuts to his face.

The Wilmington man will face charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (wall), police said. 

Domestic incident leads to arrest

A Waltham woman was arrested Saturday after police responded to Sumner Street for reports of a domestic incident, reports said. 

Julie R. Catino, 18, of 18 Pierce St., was arrested with domestic assault and battery and intimidation of a witness, police said. 

Hit-and-run leads to drunk driving charges

A Newton woman was arrested Saturday on drunk driving charges after police tracked her car after a reported hit and run incident.

Liza C. Monahan, 47, of 237 Watertown St., was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of property damage and not having a license in her possession, police said. 

According to reports, police responded to the accident scene on Watertown Street around 11:55 p.m. Friday. Witnesses told police a dark-colored Jeep had fled the scene and went toward Cook Street. 

Police followed a trail of fluid from the accident scene to a parking lot off Watertown Street where they found a black Jeep parked and occupied by Monahan.

When police spoke with Monahan, they reported that her speech was slurred and her eyes were glassy and bloodshot.

Brighton woman faces assault charges

A Brighton woman was arrested Sunday after police responded to Tremont Street for reports of a domestic incident, reports said. 

Shanon May Hakala, 28, of 109 Tremont St. #611, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (foot), assault and battery, and defacing/destruction of property (sunroof). 

Stolen bicycles

A woman came in to the Newton Police Department Sunday to report that four bikes were stolen from her garage on Elliot Street. 

According to reports, the woman noticed the bikes were missing on March 30 after returning from a short vacation. The stolen bikes included a black Raleigh mountain bike, a red Trek mountain bike, a red/white/black Trek 4.7 road bike and a black Trek 820 mountain bike.
