Maura Healey signed a new law forcing the hospital's owner to secure a nonprofit operator by November 1 or face possible state takeover. After years of delays from flood damage and corporate turmoil, former staff, first responders, and neighbors are hopeful this deadline finally gets Norwood Hospital moving again.

Norwood police, with help from federal agencies, ultimately identified the driver as a Dominican national and linked him to prior investigations before releasing him on $100 bail.
