SHREWSBURY, MA — A new Chase Bank location could be coming to Route 9, as a proposal heads through the town’s Planning Board review process.

Plans call for the construction of a bank branch at Quinsigamond Plaza along Boston Turnpike, according to a recently filed application with the Shrewsbury Planning Board. The proposal is currently listed as active and under review.

The project would involve demolishing an existing building at 103 Boston Tpke., the former home of Perrone's Barber Shop, which closed in January after 80 years in business.

The demolished space would then be combined with nearby properties at 87-97 Boston Turnpike to create a larger redevelopment site, according to the proposal.

It would be a roughly 2,800-square-foot bank building with an ATM, along with new parking, utilities and stormwater management features, according to plans.

The application identifies the project as “Chase Bank Quinsigamond Plaza,” signaling the national banking chain’s potential expansion into Shrewsbury if approved.

This comes amid a major expansion by JPMorgan Chase in the Bay State. The bank said it has plans to add more than 300 new jobs in the coming years across all lines of business, including opening new Chase branches across New England.

The closest Chase Bank locations are on Turnpike Road in Westborough and Gold Star Boulevard in Worcester.
