Fire Breaks Out At Abandoned Somerville Warehouse

Two firefighters reportedly sustained minor injuries.

SOMERVILLE, MA — Two firefighters sustained minor injuries in the aftermath of a fire that broke out at a vacant building Thursday morning, according to the city.

Firefighters responded to the scene on 480 Columbia St. at approximately 5:45 a.m. to find heavy smoke and flames emanating from the basement.

Somerville Public Information Officer Victoria MacGregor told Patch that the facility is a one and two-story warehouse formerly occupied by Nissenbaum’s Auto Parts ad Salvage. One firefighter suffered a minor facial injury but was treated at the scene and was able to return to extinguishing efforts, which were completed at approximately 8 a.m.

The Cambridge Fire Department’s Engine five, Squad three, and Division one provided mutual aid to Somerville.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
