Boston-born Celebrity Stops In At Somerville Cafe
The Newton native paid a visit on Thursday, March 26.
SOMERVILLE, MA — A local eatery received a star-studded surprise when a special customer stopped in.
Actor and comedian Amy Poehler visited Diesel Cafe at 257 Elm St. late last month. The Newton native stopped in and reportedly ordered multiple pastries while stopping to greet the staff, even taking a photo with one of them which the business posted on Instagram.
“Everybody recognized her right away,” Diesel Cafe’s Nick told Patch. “She was very down to earth, very nice… We’ve had local celebrities and politicians come through, but not anyone on that level.”

Nick emphasized that he and his peers let the former “Saturday Night Live” star “be” while she stopped in, and that he was happy to see Poehler supporting local business through her patronage.

Poehler first joined SNL in 2001, where she became one of the show’s most prominent figures for seven years. She then went on to win a Golden Globe for her role as Leslie Knope in “Parks and Recreation.” Her recent work is headlined by the reprisal of Joy in Disney Pixar’s “Inside Out 2.” Poehler has also ventured into directing in recent years.
Diesel Cafe was founded by Jennifer Park and Tucker Lewis in 1999. The friends — who first met while working at an ice cream shop in Cambridge’s Harvard Square — now own three Somerville-based businesses.
