Festival@First Returns with 'Fractured Fairy Tales'

Theatre@First is thrilled to welcome back its popular Festival@First production, a night of short plays written and directed by up-and-coming talent. This year’s lineup focuses around the theme of twisted, or fractured, fairy tales. Performances will be held at Unity Somerville, July 31 -- August 8, 2015. With nine short plays in one magical evening of theatre, Festival@First’s return after a five-year hiatus promises to be a worthy summertime treat for theatergoers.

Festival@First 8: Fractured Fairy Tales twists some of our favorite fairy tales by asking what if. What if Hansel and Gretel had gotten lost in Boston instead of the woods? What if the Big Bad Wolf was framed and only Goldilocks could help him solve the murder of Little Red Riding Hood’s grandma? What if fairy tale princesses attended group therapy to come to terms with their traumatic pasts? Altogether, the nine shows presented will ask playgoers to think a little differently about their favorite childhood stories.

Although the show includes fairy tale themes and retellings, parents are advised that some language and dark motifs may make the show inappropriate for small children.

Since its founding in 2003, Theatre@First has produced more than 30 main-stage shows, as well as cabarets, Shakespeare slams, and a popular series of staged readings.
