Former Somerville Officer Faces New Charges: Report

Alex Capobianco, who was forced to retire amid allegations of drug use, was found asleep at the wheel of a parked car, according to police.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A former detective of the year in Somerville was arraigned on new drug charges Monday, according to WCVB's Mike Beaudet. Alex Capobianco faces four charges, including operating under the influence of drugs and possession with intent to distribute.

Capobianco was found asleep at the wheel of a parked car in Medford, according to police. Officers found drugs, paraphernalia and chemicals used in the production of methamphetamine, and Capobianco appeared "erratic," police said.

A judge recently dismissed charges against Capobianco in two separate cases, according to WCVB. The network reported in 2017 that Capobianco, who is Mayor Joseph Curtatone's cousin, had been placed on paid leave amid allegations of drug use. He was later forced to retire.
