Fundraiser For Families Displaced By Somerville Fire

A fire on Sydney Street last month displaced a dozen people and left $500,000 in damages in its wake.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for the victims of a fire in Somerville last month. The two-alarm blaze hit 31-33 Sydney St. the night of Oct. 17, causing about $500,000 in damages and displacing eight adults and four children. None of the residents were injured.

Brooke Kahn, who lives nearby, set up the campaign Monday to help the residents of the second and third floors, where much of the damage was confined.

"The families on the second and third floor lost everything due to fire and water damage," she wrote. "This money is to help the victims replace the personal property that was lost."

According to Kahn, a couple lived on the third floor and a family from Bangladesh with an 11-year-old son lived on the second floor. The fundraiser is also seeking donations of grocery store and department store gift cards and furniture.
