James Beard Award-Winner Closes Somerville Restaurant

The restaurant closed Saturday after six years on Washington Street.

SOMERVILLE, MA — A James Beard Award-winner who owns a handful of restaurants in greater Boston has closed his Somerville eatery. Kirkland Tap & Trotter, owned by chef and restaurateur Tony Maws, shut down at the end of business Saturday, according to a post on the restaurant's Facebook page.

"It's been six wonderful years in Somerville but, sadly, Saturday will be our last service here at 425 Washington St. Come by one last time for a beer or a really good half grilled chicken," the post read. "We'll be here tonight and tomorrow bringing joy."

Maws also owns Craigie Burger at Time Out Market in Fenway and Craigie on Main in Cambridge, according to Boston Restaurant Talk. Kirkland Tap & Trotter opened in Somerville in 2013.
