Memorial Service Announced For Somerville Officer Louis Remigio

Remigio, "the kind of police officer you want serving your community," died after he was hit by a car while riding his motorcycle on I-95.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A funeral service for Somerville police officer Louis Remigio is scheduled for Friday at the George L. Doherty Funeral Home. Calling hours are Thursday, Oct. 12 from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home. A law enforcement walk-by will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Remigio died Monday from injuries he sustained Sunday morning when he was hit head-on by a car on I-95 in North Hampton, NH. The driver of the car, 18-year-old Michael Ricci, of Burlington, has been charged with felony reckless conduct for allegedly racing on the highway at the time of the crash. More charges are anticipated.

"Louie was a first class human being and exactly the kind of police officer you want serving your community; he was tough yet kind, empathetic, and fair," Somerville Police Chief David Fallon said in a statement Tuesday. "As a Chief, you always want to see that any interaction your officers have with community members are changing people’s lives for the better, and Officer Remigio embodied that one thousand percent."

REMIGIO, Louis M., Somerville Police Dept. Motor Officer, Tango 6- 55, Of Tewksbury, formerly of Somerville, passed away surrounded by his loving family on October 9, 2017.

Beloved husband of the late Amy Lynn (Andrews). Cherished father of Danielle and Alexandra Remigio both of Tewksbury. Loving son of the late Manuel and Francisca Remigio. Dear brother of Ana O’Shea and her husband John J.C III of Lubbock, TX, Helena Wickstrom and her husband Timothy of Whitinsville, Natalie Pereira and her husband Edward J. of Medford. Also survived by 11 nieces and nephews.

Lou was a dedicated Police Officer for the City of Somerville for 30 years. Along with many extended relatives and friends he leaves behind numerous devoted fellow officers in the City of Somerville. He was a member of the Law Keepers Motorcycle Club and a former coach of Tewksbury and Somerville Youth Sports.

Funeral procession from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville, Friday morning at 9:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Clement Church, Somerville at 11:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited.

Calling Hours Thursday 2-8 pm. A Law Enforcement Walk By will take place at 3:30 pm. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Lou’s memory to Somerville Pop Warner Program, 66 Sycamore St. Somerville, MA 02145.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for Remigio's daughters, Ali and Danielle. In just one day, it surpassed its goal of $5,000 and is currently honing in on $8,000. At this time an official donation or fundraising campaign has not been set up through the Somerville Police Department, and police are warning residents of a phone scam asking residents for donations for a fund established in honor of Remigio.
