4. Massachusetts approves $96 million car-free Mystic River bridge (thecooldown.com) — Somerville is set to gain a new $96 million car-free bridge linking Draw Seven Park to Everett and the Encore casino area, giving walkers and cyclists safer access to MBTA and trail networks. State transportation officials approved a major construction contract despite higher-than-expected costs, aiming to complete the Mystic River pedestrian and bike connection in about three years.
   

5. Saints Cosmas and Damian Society Travels to Gaeta for the Festa! (thesomervillenewsweekly.blog) — A Somerville-based Saints Cosmas and Damian Society delegation just returned from Gaeta, Italy, where 25 local members joined a major religious festival honoring the twin saints. The group marched in the procession, met Italian families with Massachusetts ties, and saw State Sen. Sal DiDomenico named Ambassador to Gaeta during a weekend of celebrations.
