Popular Somerville Bar In Jeopardy Amid Lease Dispute

In a Facebook post this week, the owners wrote that they "don't know" about the future of the pub.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A popular Somerville bar could close if a lease issue is not resolved soon, according to the owners. A post on the Bull McCabe's Facebook page Tuesday evening stated that owners Brian Manning and Chris and Linda Whitney initially signed a 10-year lease with a five-year option and planned on executing the option.

"Late last year, however, our landlord told us that we needed to renegotiate terms on the lease...I know...doesn't make sense to me either; it goes against the option," they wrote. "There's a discrepancy in the lease that he says means one thing when for ten years, my partners and I have believed the opposite. That may end up in lawyers' hands. We think we're right. He thinks he's right. Hence, the lawyers."

If the two sides do not come to an agreement, Bull McCabe's will close June 30 when the 10-year term expires. The pub and live music venue has been operating out of 366 Somerville Ave. in Union Square since 2008.
