Somerville 175: City Launches Year-Long Birthday Celebration

Somerville kicked off its birthday extravaganza at the State of the City address Monday. Here's a look at what's upcoming.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Somerville kicked off its year-long 175th birthday celebration at the State of the City address Monday night.

Throughout 2017, Somerville will celebrate separating from Charlestown in March of 1842. The city is asking residents to share stories, photos, comments or memories of Somerville, whether you've lived here your entire life or are new to the neighborhood.

The city will regularly be adding programming to its birthday schedule, and invites residents to submit their own ideas for events or historic material for consideration. Suggestions and questions may be submitted at the link above, as well.
