Somerville Library Hosts Eco-Author Carrie Russell
Carrie Russell, author of Somerville novel, Drowning Cactus, appearing at Somerville Central Library Sunday June 14th

Author Carrie Russell will speak about environmentalism, fiction and her debut novel, “Drowning Cactus” at the Somerville Central Library, 79 Highland Avenue, on Sunday June 14th, 3:00-4:30.
Drowning Cactus is a fast-paced, funny novel following the misadventures of a Somerville-based urban gardener and a big-hearted cactus thief from New Mexico as they stumble across America, through the heart of Native American rights protests, endangered species battles and immigration wars.
Russell worked as an environmental advocate before she became a novelist and spent many years assisting community groups working to improve local air quality and to make the Green Line Extension a reality. The novel is inspired by her experiences in and around Somerville as well as some of America’s most remote and threatened wilderness areas.
