SOMERVILLE, MA — A Somerville man faces a drunken driving charge in a crash on Florence Street over the weekend, police said. Officers were called to the scene around 11:15 p.m. May 25 and found a 2007 Volvo S60 with heavy front-end damage and a 2013 Toyota with damage to the driver's side.
Daniel DaSilva, 44, told officers he had been driving the Volvo, according to the police report. He appeared to be confused and was using the car to maintain his balance, police said. DaSilva said he was not injured and did not have a license, according to the report.
Officers smelled a "very strong odor" of alcohol coming from him, and he was unsteady on his feet, the report stated. His eyes were bloodshot and glassy and his speech seemed to be slurred, though he had a thick accent, police said.
