Somerville's Lincoln Park Reopening This Month

SOMERVILLE, MA – Please join Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, Ward 2 Alderman J.T. Scott, and the Mayor’s Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development on Friday, July 20, to celebrate the grand re-opening of Lincoln Park. A ribbon cutting ceremony and event is planned for 9 a.m., and will include games, face painting, and music as well as lots of free play! A brief speaking agenda is also planned to celebrate the new facilities.

The grass areas are not yet ready for use, but the new and upgraded park features set to open Friday include the playground, skate park, basketball courts, rain gardens, water sprays, off-leash dog area, circulation paths, fitness station, community gardens, pollinator garden, toddler area with sandbox, parkour area, and expansive decks with tables and chairs. The new design also includes a 1.25 million gallon subsurface stormwater storage system and recycled rainwater irrigation. Because the new grass on the fields at Lincoln Park will need several more months to become established, the soccer field and softball field, will be fenced off and closed until the spring of 2019. Newly planted lawn areas will be fenced off and closed through the fall of 2018.
