Public Hearing For Stoughton Center Apartments Rescheduled
The complex would fill a hole left when the Chinese restaurant, Cheng-Du was destroyed in a fire in 2009.

STOUGHTON, MA — The public hearing and proposal before the planning board for a 14-unit apartment building in Stoughton Center has been rescheduled to next week.
The developer tabled the discussion, which was originally supposed to be held last Thursday, for this Thursday. The public are welcome to come hear the proposal and ask the developer and planning board any questions. Thursday's meeting is at Great Hall at 10 Pearl St. at 7 p.m.
If approved, a massive 38-foot-tall apartment complex would fill a hole left when the Chinese restaurant, Cheng-Du was destroyed in a fire in 2009. It also would replace the former storefront of Malcolm and Parson's Insurance. Town planer Noreen O'Toole presented developer Connelly Management's plan to the board of selectmen at last week's meeting.

Connelly Management's updated plan for the property at the corner of Washington and Fremnt streets includes six one-bedroom apartments and eight two-bedrooms, O'Toole told the board. The plan includes room for 16 parking spaces.
Since the space is considered mixed development, the apartments would be above two ground-level storefronts. The building would have three stories. Ten percent of the apartment buildings would be classified as affordable housing, per town bylaw.

"It's replacing a vacant structure that will enhance the vitality of our (downtown) district," O'Toole said.
