Selectman Proposes 'New Growth Policy' for Stoughton
New revenue from the town would be used for public safety and building infrastructure.

STOUGHTON, MA — A new proposed policy from a member of the Stoughton Board of Selectmen aims to increase revenue for the town.
At a recent selectmen meeting, Selectman Robert O'Regan proposed a new growth policy to “find areas of economic development and give direction to staff for new tax revenue.”
“One of the problems we’re having in our town is meeting expenses for infrastructure and public safety. We can see there are areas of town that are developing or ought to be developing,” Regan said.

The selectman said the three areas that are in the best position to generate new revenue are Washington Street, School Street to the Canton town line, and Park Street between Campanelli Drive and the Brockton town line.
The new revenue would go towards public safety and building infrastructure, he said.

As part of the policy, Regan proposed that the town create a five-year build-out of equipment and staff for police and fire by Nov. 1. Regan said he’s spoken with Town Manager Michael Hartman, who is on board with the plan and has begun speaking with department heads.
Selectman Joe Mokrisky backed the idea.
“We should be doing this all over town. We should know the needs of all of our employees,” he said.
The board will take a vote on the proposal on Aug. 2.
