Selectmen Reopen Search For Interim Town Manager

The board is hoping to find candidates and hold public interviews later this month.

STOUGHTON, MA — The new Stoughton Board of Selectmen is rebooting the search for an interim town manager and are promising a more open process than what was seen earlier this year.

With current Interim Town Manager's Steve Anastos' contract expiring on Dec. 31, the board voted Thursday to seek candidates for the position and accept applications through Dec. 22. The opening was expected to be posted at Town Hall by noon Friday and the board will accept applications from Anastos and any town employee that is at least an assistant department head.

The board also voted to reserve the right to seek additional candidates if they receive no applicants or only one.

Once applications are collected, board members said they would conduct interviews in an open session, with whoever they pick starting the temporary job Jan. 1.

Anastos was named the interim town manager on July 25, following a short and contentious meeting that saw former selectmen David Sousa, Peter Brown and Robert Cohn shout through the vote as O'Reagan called for the job to be posted and an application process.

Prior to Anastos, Town Accountant William Rowe briefly served as the interim manager following the expiration of Michael Hartman's contract.

The board is scheduled to discuss the position again at their Dec. 19 meeting.
