STOUGHTON, MA — Firefighters battled a 3-alarm fire at a three-family home, but Monday's heavy winds fed the flames to the point of no repair. Fire officials confirmed that seven people were displaced after the fire at 58-60 Prospect St.

The fire started shortly before 2:15 p.m., but since the building will soon be demolished, what caused the fire may stay forever a mystery, Stoughton Fire Chief Michael Laracy told the Brockton Enterprise.

When firefighters arrived, smoke was billowing above the roof and began to intensify because of Monday's heavy winds. An evacuation alarm was sounded around 2:45 p.m., ordering all firefighters out of the building. The wind continued to be a challenge throughout the course of the fire. Roughly three hours after the fire started, the second story porches and roofs had collapsed.
