Stoughton Public Safety Building Site Selection Underway

O'Regan said the process is moving along. He said, "They're about half-way through that process. it should be completed next week."

STOUGHTON, MA — The evaluations for potential sites for a new public safety building are underway.

According to Selectmen Chair Robert O'Regan, the Public Safety Building Site Committee is working with the Stoughton Engineering Department to establish ranking criteria for the any potential sites. The ranking criteria includes requested items that Police Chief Donna McNamara and Fire Chief Michael Laracy say their respected departments need.

"Within the next five to ten years, we would need additional space," said McNamara. "We would need an additional training room and additional officers on our department. That building (the current station) would be much too small." The amount of parking is also part of the ranking criteria.

The process is supposed to complete at the August 2 Board of Selectmen meeting, but will operate in executive session. O'Regan said this is because of potential negotiations, a site acquisition, or development.
