MARLBOROUGH, MA — Marlborough police have two Sudbury residents in custody who police say broke into a Marlborough man's home while he was recovering from severe burns in the hospital. Police said several items were stolen from the man's home and later found at a pawn shop in Framingham.

Sarah Anne Hampton, 31, and Joseph Migliaccio, 35, both of Sudbury, were charged with breaking and entering into Gene Rano's home, police said in a statement. Rano has been in the hospital for a week after suffering severe burns to 40 percent of his body in a brush fire. He had to have his legs amputated and was placed in a medically induced coma.

Police said the pair knew that Rano had been injured in a fire and would not be home. They broke in at least twice on April 5 and 7, police said. Rano had surveillance cameras set up around his home that helped police catch Hampton and Migliaccio.
